Part 1: Initial Setup and Preparation
CRITICAL WARNING: Always use the official Trezor website or Trezor Suite application. Never type your Recovery Seed into a computer or phone.
What You'll Need
- Your Trezor device (e.g., Model One or Model T).
- The original USB cable.
- A computer with internet access.
- The official Trezor Suite application.
Security Check
Before connecting, ensure the device is factory-sealed. Check the packaging for signs of tampering, damaged seals, or pre-written seed cards. If in doubt, contact Trezor support.
Part 2: Initialization and Backup
After installing Trezor Suite and connecting your device, you must install the latest firmware and create your wallet.
The Recovery Seed: Master Backup
The Recovery Seed (12, 18, or 24 words) is the ONLY way to recover your funds. Write it down on the provided card and store it SECURELY offline.
The seed words are displayed one by one exclusively on the Trezor screen. Never photograph or digitize this list.
Part 3: PIN and Login
Setting Up a PIN
The PIN protects your device locally and is required for every login and transaction. Its input uses a randomized system:
- The Trezor screen shows a randomized number grid (1-9).
- The computer screen shows an empty grid.
- You select the position on the computer screen corresponding to the number shown on the device.
For Model T users, you may opt for a Passphrase (25th word) for advanced security, but forgetting it means permanent loss of funds.
Part 4: Transaction Security
Sending and Receiving Funds
The core security feature of the Trezor is the physical confirmation required for outbound transactions.
- **Receiving:** The generated address must be verified on the **Trezor screen** to protect against malware swapping the address on your computer.
- **Sending:** After initiating a transfer in Trezor Suite, the device will display the **recipient address, amount, and fee**. You must **physically press the button(s)** on the Trezor to approve the transaction.
